Talks

• Last 60 - 90 minutes. I can talk for England!!
• Daytime and evening slots available.
• Talks on a variety of topics, from historical to techniques.
• Actual quilts will be brought along for ladies to see and handle.

Cost: £70 plus 25p per mile.

Mini-workshops
• Last 90 – 120 minutes.
• Daytime and evening slots available.
• An opportunity to learn a quick and easy technique.
• Students will be able to take a finished product home on the day, e.g. a greetings card / a small wall-hanging.
• I can either send a requirements list upon request, for the students to bring along their own materials. Alternatively, I can supply (at a nominal rate) a kit containing everything needed to complete the project.

Cost: £85 plus 25p per mile.

Full day workshops
• Typically run 10am – 4pm.
• Weekdays and weekends available.
• An opportunity to learn a new technique in greater depth.
• Some workshops give students the opportunity to have a go at developing their own designs in the morning, which they can then transform into the finished article in the afternoon.
• As above, I can send a requirements list prior to the workshop, or I am happy to bring along a selection of fabrics for people to purchase and use on the day.

Cost: £100 plus 25p per mile.


Talks

Antique and Sampler Quilts.
During the talk I will show you a selection of American and English antique quilts, also talk about the history, materials used and the techniques that enable the quilts to be dated.
Then I will show and talk about a selection of more recently made sampler quilts, these include samplers based on traditional designs, Christmas quilts and themed quilts.
You are welcome to touch and ask questions about the all quilts shown.

“Hotchpotch” of quilts and wall hangings
During this talk you will be able to see, feel and learn about different groups of quilt and wall hangings, to include stained glass quilts, shadow quilted quilts, African styled wall hangings, children’s etc.
Hopefully some of these quilts will inspire you to try different techniques and styles.

Mini-workshops


Somerset Folded Card.
Fold fabric to make into a fantastic greeting card. Great for Christmas cards – lots of folding and a little sewing.

Shadow Quilted Cards.
Use the shadow quilting technique to make spring, summer or Christmas cards.
Great to embellish with beads and embroidery.

Celtic Cards
Learn how to use iron-on bias to make a Celtic design, then embellish with beads etc.

Square Folded Cards.
Fold and manipulate fabric to make these unusual cards. Get the textured look quickly and easily.

Cathedral Windows.
Learn how to make cathedral window blocks and secret garden blocks. Then turn them into a purse, glasses case etc.


Full day workshops


A Divine Angel
Start early for Christmas !! During the day we will be making a stunning angel using Bond-a-web and iron-on bias tape. What could be easier !! This technique is called Stained Glass Patchwork.
This class is suitable for beginners to advanced.
All hand sewing on the day.
Come and have some FUN

Celtic wall hanging
During the day the student will “do a doodle” on paper to produce their own Celtic design. Transfer the design onto fabric. Make your own bias strips or use ion-on bias tape to complete the design, back with wadding and fabric, Then stand back and ADMIRE.
People who can’t draw will love this workshop.

Japanese Folded Patchwork.
Come and be Japanese for the day. Come and master two kinds of Japanese folded technique. Square/square and circle /square.
Once mastered these sections may be made into bags, wall hangings and quilts etc.
Suitable for beginners to the more advanced.
The wearing of Kimonos is not compulsory.!!!

Mariners Compass
Come and have a fun day, learning how to draw a mariners compass, then transferring it to fabric, using the foundation piecing technique, this is one of the easiest techniques around, you just sew on the lines and follow the numbers.
Come and hand sew your compass, very appropriate as I live so close to the sea. All hand sewing in class and suitable for beginners to advanced.

Shadow Quilted Wall Hanging,Baltimore Style.
Come and make a wall hanging using an almost forgotten technique known as shadow quilting.
The workshop will consist of making a Baltimore design, transferring it to fabric with bond-a-web, covering it with voile, making a sandwich and quilting through all the layers. This can then be embellished with beads etc.
All hand sewing in class, suitable for beginners to advance.
